Rockford RiverHawks News Release

LOVES PARK, Ill. - Fans will not need to be alarmed when they see a plethora of squad cars, fire engines, and ambulances at Road Ranger Stadium on July 9. The vehicles will be on hand as a part of the first annual Guns vs. Hoses Charity Softball Game prior to the Rockford RiverHawks' home game.

The contest features members of the Rockford fire department teamed against personnel from the Rockford police department. The game will be played for charity, with proceeds benefiting the Harlem Community Center of Rockford and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The event is sponsored by the National Fire Sprinkler Association.

The softball doubleheader begins at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, before the Rockford RiverHawks' game against the Traverse City Beach Bums at 7:05 p.m. Even though the game is for charity, there are promises for intense competition.

"Based on the emails going back and forth, a rivalry is definitely brewing," RiverHawks director of operations Chris Daleo said. "I think this is something we will continue to have year after year."

Each department is playing on behalf of a charity of their choice. Tickets purchased through the Rockford Fire Department will have a portion of the proceeds go to the MDA. Tickets bought through the Rockford Police Department will benefit the Harlem Community Center.

Area law enforcement and firefighting departments are encouraged to attend, as all policemen and firemen in attendance will be honored before the game.

Sprinkler Man from the NFSA will be in attendance at the game.

The RiverHawks' game will offer $1.00 draft beers as part of its regular Thirsty Thursday promotion, sponsored by Miller Lite.

The Rockford RiverHawks are the most highly attended minor-league baseball team in the Stateline. The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league playing its 17th season this summer. The RiverHawks are in their eighth season and will host the 2009 Frontier League All-Star Game at 7:05 p.m. on July 15. Advertising and ticket information is available by calling (815) 885-2255.
