Lake Erie Crushers News Release
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington Wild Things spoiled Lake Erie's bid at a weekend sweep, as the Crushers fell to the Wild Things in the series finale on Sunday night, 6-1.
The Crushers (9-12) saw their three game winning streak snapped with the loss, while the win for the Wild Things (12-8) was their first in four days.
Lake Erie scored first for the fourth game in a row. Emmanuel Quiles and Max Casper stroked back-to-back one out singles before Seth Granger was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Juan Sanchez. Sanchez drove in Lake Erie's only run of the night, on a sacrifice fly to score Quiles.
Washington responded with a trio of runs on four hits in the bottom of the third inning to take the lead. Jovan Rosa tied the game on a one-out double to score CJ Beatty, and former Crusher Rogelio Noris snapped the 1-1 tie two batters later on a two-run double down the left field line.
The Wild Things used the long ball to add to their advantage in the fourth, and again in the sixth. Beatty belted a two-run shot in the fourth inning, his second of the series, and Shain Stoner rocked a solo homer in the sixth inning to plate the final run of the contest.
The Crushers scattered eight hits on the evening, but did not record a single hit for extra bases, while four of Washington's eight knocks went for extra bases.
Shawn Smith (2-1) went the distance for the Wild Things, and allowed just a run on eight hits while fanning four to earn the victory. Devyn Rivera (0-1) took the loss in his first start of the season after allowing three runs on five hits in three innings of action.
Casper led the way for Lake Erie offensively, going 3-for-4 on the night with a trio of singles, and finished the road trip with seven knocks. Andrew Davis went 1-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to 11 games, while Quiles's second inning single extended his hitting streak to nine games.
The Crushers are off on Monday but will begin a three game series against the Evansville Otters at All Pro Freight Stadium on Tuesday night. The Crushers will start right hander Alex Kaminsky (1-2, 5.09) and the Otters will start right hander Bryce Morrow (2-1, 2.35). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
