Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - Zach Kometani had three hits, Scott Dunn pitched 6.2 innings of one run ball and the Traverse City Beach Bums overcame an early deficit to down the Frontier Greys 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Trailing 1-0 heading into the fourth, the Beach Bums got the offense going as Marcus Nidiffer led off with a single. Kometani did the same two batters later. After Greys starter Joe Zeller got a strikeout for the second out of the inning, Jeremy Banks lined a single through the middle to score Nidiffer and tie the game at 1-1.
In the fifth, Traverse City was able to further dent Zeller with two outs. Jose Vargas started things off with a single and came around to score on a double by Nidiffer to make it 2-1 Beach Bums. Taylor Wrenn then grounded a ball through the right side to score Nidiffer and push the lead to 3-1.
That run support was enough for Dunn (4-0) who settled in to toss 6.2 innings, scattering eight hits, striking out five. The victory was Dunn's 19th for TC, moving him into third place all alone on the Beach Bums career wins list. Nick Capito came on in the seventh and went the final 2.1 innings scoreless, striking out four, claiming his first save.
Offensively, Kometani had three hits while Nidiffer, Wrenn, and Banks each had two. The two markers by Wrenn extended his hitting streak to 14 games.
Traverse City now head out on the road for a three-game set at Florence starting Tuesday. Jake Sabol (4-0 0.30) will be on the mound for the Beach Bums against Dan Jensen (2-1, 4.08) for the Freedom. First pitch for all three games is at 6:35 pm with the Budweiser Traverse City Beach Bums Pregame Show starting on Sunny Country 101.9 FM at 6:15.
