Evansville Otters News Release
The Evansville Otters lost the series finale against the Florence Freedom 10-4 on Sunday night at historic Bosse Field.
The loss ends a nine game home winning streak for Evansville as the Otters finish the homestand 5-1.
The game story and box score is attached.
Florence utilized a seven run second inning followed by a two run third inning for the series-avoiding sweep.
Starting pitcher Rich Hawkins threw a scoreless first inning for the Otters and followed it up by retiring the first two batters in the next inning. Unfortunately, the next seven Florence Freedom hitters would reach base. An error from shortstop Ryan Kresky prolonged the inning with the big hits being a two-run double from designated hitter Byron Wiley and a two run home run from Jacob Tanis.
Florence added two more runs in the fourth inning for a 9-0 lead.
Evansville scored their first run on a throwing error from Florence catcher Jim Jacquot in the fourth inning. Designated hitter Andrew Clark then hit a sixth inning home run to pull the Otters within another run. It was Clark's fourth home run in the last eight days. He finished the game 2-for-2 with two walks.
First baseman Jeremy Hamilton hit a seventh inning solo home run for Florence and Otters catcher John Nester responded with a two run home run in the bottom of the inning.
Florence improves to 12-9 this season as Evansville is currently 14-6.
Michael Oros (1-0) is the winning pitcher. He allowed one unearned run in 5.0 innings. He would only surrender two walks and two hits in the game. The loss goes to Hawkins (0-1) who pitched only 2.0 innings. Hawkins yielded nine runs (three earned) in his first defeat of the season.
Evansville will travel on the off day Monday to Avon, Ohio where the Otters begin a week long road trip at the Lake Erie Crushers and Washington Wild Things.
Evansville's next game is at Lake Erie on Tuesday, June 11. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm EDT at All Pro Freight Stadium.
