Lake Erie Crushers News Release

Avon, OH - The Lake Erie Crushers and River City Rascals traded blows all evening long on a warm night at All Pro Freight Stadium. But in the end, the West Division-leading Rascals were the team left standing as they beat the Crushers by the final of 8-6.

The Crushers started quickly against River City starter Chris Ingoglia, getting a run in the second on a double-play grounder by Brad Griffiths. Lake Erie would then tack on two more runs in the third on a home run by Luke Hetherington, his sixth of the season.

But the Rascals soon awoke and came out with a vengeance in the fourth inning, scoring four times against Cristobal Mata to take a 4-3 lead. River City scored three more runs in the fifth, two on a double by Chad Maddox as the Rascals led 7-3. The Crushers slowly started to work their way back into the game in the bottom of the fifth, as Andrew Davis slammed his tenth homer of the year to bring Lake Erie to within 7-5.

The Crushers got a little closer in the sixth as Jodam Rivera hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Eddie Tisdale to make it a 7-6 lead for River City. But the Rascals would get an insurance run in the eighth inning as an error by Arden McWilliams and a pair of wild pitches from Shannon Sprouse enabled Ryan Groth to score and make it a two-run lead for River City.

Ingoglia picked up the win for the Rascals, despite allowing five runs on nine hits in five innings. Mata took the defeat for the Crushers and Jason Lowey pitched the ninth for his 11th save of the season.

Lake Erie drops to 25-20 on the season and will continue their three game series with the Rascals on Saturday night. Kevin Skogley will start for the Crushers against River City's Josh Lowey.
