Evansville Otters News Release

July 10, 2009, Washington, PA - While fireworks followed Friday night's game between the Evansville Otters and the Washington Wild Things, it was the Wild Things that provided all the firepower on the field, belting four home runs in an 8-1 victory.

Washington took an early lead behind Grant Psomas' 15th home run of the year, then the Wild Things broke open a close game in the sixth inning with back-to-back-to-back home runs by Brett Grandstrand, Michael Parker, and Phil Laurent, pushing the lead from 5-1 to 8-1. Laurent's drive off the scoreboard in right centerfield was the final blow for Otters' starter Kai Tuomi, who was lifted after 5.2 innings. Evansville's lone run came in the fourth inning when Frank Meade doubled in Dustin Koca.

Wild Things' starter Brian McCullough (3-1) went the distance, allowing only one earned run on eight hits over nine innings. The Wild Things (20-26) have now won four straight games, dropping the Otters to 15-31 in the process. Game two of the three game series is Saturday at 6:05pm CDT.
