Lake Erie Crushers News Release

Avon, OH - The Lake Erie Crushers continued their mastery of the Rockford RiverHawks on Sunday evening as they completed a three game sweep by the final of 9-4. The Crushers complete the season series with a 6-0 record versus Rockford.

The Crushers scored twice in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Nick Maragas and an RBI double by Drew Saylor. Two innings later, they would put the game out of reach by scoring five times. Saylor hit an infield single to score Brad Griffiths, and then on a throwing error by Rockford's Doug Sanders, Jodam Rivera would come home to make it 4-0. Following a walk to Luke Hetherington, Gordon Gronkowski belted a three-run homer over the center field fence to give Lake Erie a 7-0 edge.

Lake Erie scored two more times in the fifth inning for good measure as Saylor drove home Wayne Bond on a sacrifice fly and Hetherington added an RBI single to push the lead out to 9-0.

In the meantime, Crushers starter Paul Fagan cruised on the mound as he dominated Rockford through six innings. He would yield a grand slam home run to Robert Sabates in the seventh to give the ‘Hawks a glimmer of hope. But Cristobal Mata tossed two scoreless innings to finish out the game and the sweep for Lake Erie.

Fagan on the night would allow four runs on four hits in seven innings, with five strikeouts against just one walk. He improves to 3-0 on the season. Rockford's Mike Rogers took the loss to drop to 0-2.

Lake Erie will take Monday off and then open up a three game series in Kalamazoo against the Kings on Tuesday morning.
