Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

EVANVILLE, Ind. - The Traverse City Beach Bums closed out a six-game roadtrip by falling to the Evansville Otters 7-3 in the finale of a day-night doubleheader on Sunday.

The Otters scored in the first inning for the second time in the doubleheader, plating a run against Beach Bums starter Kevin Reese. Josh Howard led off the game with a triple and scored when Javier Brown followed with a single.

The lead didn't last long as the Beach Bums were able to tie the contest in the top of the second off Evansville starter Rashad Ford. John Alonso reached on an error to begin the frame. Mike Victor and Kyle Maunus followed by drawing walks. Robby Alcombrack lifted a sacrifice fly to score Alonso and knot the score.

Evansville immediately answered in the bottom of the third, mounting a rally after Reese retired the first two batters. With Javier Brown and Dustin Koca on base, Greg Alexander connected on a three-run homer over the left-field fence, his first professional homer. Alexander drove home eight runs in the three-game series. A long homer by Frank Meade ended the evening for Kevin Reese in the fifth. Reese threw 4.2 innings and struck out a career high four but took the loss.

Robby Alcombrack connected on a two-out homer in the sixth off Evansville reliever Nick Utley to get within 5-3. The homer was his first of the season. The Otters plated single runs against two different relievers in the seventh and eighth to account for the final margin.

Robby Alcombrack was the Beach Bums Player of the Game after finishing 1-for-3 with the homer and two RBI. Traverse City finished with six hits in the game, two of which came off the bat of Chase Gerdes.

The Beach Bums (7-8) return home to open a six-game homestand at Wuerfel Park on Tuesday night against the Washington Wild Things in a 7:05 pm game. RHP Brett Bostelman (3-0, 0.53) will make his fourth start for the Beach Bums against Washington's RHP Zach Groh (0-0, 4.50). The contest is the first TBA Credit Union Kid's Club Night, the first 500 fans will receive a glow fan.
