
Sliders Take Series Finale

The Midwest Sliders broke a 3-3 tie with two runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a lead they would nor relinquish, defeating the Windy City ThunderBolts 6-3.
Things started off well for Windy City as with one out in the first inning, Guillermo Martinez walked and moved to third when Mike Sullivan reached on an error by Sam Deluca. Martinez scored and Sullivan took second on a wild pitch from James Albury and a subsequent throwing error by Ben Barrone. J. T. Restko came up and singled home Sullivan for a 2-0 ThunderBolts lead.
Midwest scored a run in the second to cut the lead in half and then plated two runs in the fourth on three doubles to go up 3-2. Windy City came back to tie in the fifth on an RBI single by Gilberto Mejia, scoring Zach Aakhus, who had doubled. For Mejia, the single extended his hitting streak to 13 games.
After that the Sliders were able to tag the Windy City bullpen for a pair of runs in the seventh as Zack Pace brought home Gilberto Zayas on an RBI single and Ben Barrone scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-3. Midwest got an insurance run in the ninth to create the final tally.
Albury (1-0) got the win for the Sliders going six innings allowing six hits and three runs, two earned. Ashwin Asjes pitched a perfect ninth for his first save of the year. Nick Hall (1-1) took the loss for Windy City. Starter Stephen Flake pitched well for the Bolts allowing three runs on seven hits, walking none and striking out six in six innings.
Windy City now heads out on the road for six games with the first three at Rockford Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. All three games of the series against the RiverHawks will air on 88.3 FM, WXAV.
