Washington Wild Things News Release
Washington, Pa - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, lost to the River City Rascals by a score of 9-5.
River City took a 4-0 lead in the second on a wild pitch and RBI triple by Scott Houin. Despite a homerun from designated hitter Jacob Dempsey in the second and a two run shot by Grant Psomas, the Wild Things trailed for the rest of the game. Ryan Wehrle also benefited from a two-run homerun for the Rascals.
Second baseman Joe Spiers had a strong performance for the Wild Things, going three for four with two doubles and two stolen bases. Ernie Banks came in to hit for Chris Sidick in the top of the ninth, his first plate appearance since leaving the game with a muscle spasm on Thursday.
The most unusual play of the game came in the eighth inning, when Andy Reilly bunted for River City with runners on first and second. The ball bounced out of the glove of Wild Things' third baseman Michael Parker, and land in the mask of catcher Alan Robbins. By rule, all runners were given three bases, allowing two to score. Reilly was credited with a triple and two RBI.
The Wild Things travel to Traverse City on Tuesday where they will face the Beach Bums. Broadcast on WJPA 95.3 FM begins at 6:55.
