Gateway Grizzlies News Release
The Florence Freedom edged the Gateway Grizzlies 4-3 Sunday night in front of 3,479 at GCS Ballpark. The Freedom took two of three in the weekend series.
For the second night in a row the Freedom (10-6) took an early lead. They went up 2-0 with a run each in the first and second innings off Grizzlies' starter Mark Brackman. Billy Mottram reached in the first on a wild pitch despite striking out. He scored on a two-out hit by Ryan Basham. Jeff Miller led off the second with a hit, then scored later in the inning on a wild pitch.
The Grizzlies (6-10) took the lead with a three-run fourth inning. Stephen Holdren led off the inning with his fourth home run of the year. Dan Maycock and Kevin Kotch reached base on back-to-back two-out errors by the Freedom. Phillip White and Stephen Douglas followed with run scoring singles to put the Grizzlies up 3-2.
Holdren finished 2-3 with the homer. White was 2-2 with the RBI.
Justin Pickett's two-run homer in the sixth inning put the Freedom up for good, 4-3.
