Syracuse Crunch News Release

Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Crunch could not mount any offense and was shut out for the third time in eight games extending its winless streak to nine games (0-8-0-1), losing by a 4-0 count to the Lake Erie Monsters tonight in front of 4,688 fans at the War Memorial at Oncenter.

Returning to the War Memorial at Oncenter from a three-game road swing, the Crunch was looking for some home cooking to try to reverse its season-high eight game winless streak.

That goal was temporarily squashed when Lake Erie's Marty Sertich beat Crunch starter Dan LaCosta on a feed from Kyle Cumiskey to give the Monsters a 1-0 lead at the 18:36 mark of the first frame. The marker came during a 4-on-4 situation.

Syracuse could not get the equalizer despite outshooting Lake Erie by a 12-8 margin in the first.

Lake Erie extended its lead to 2-0 five and a half minutes into the second stanza during a 5-on-3 situation when former Crunch member Philippe Dupuis fed a pass across the crease that deflected off Clay Wilson and right to Sertich, who buried it into the open side.

The Monsters took a commanding 3-0 lead with 1:08 left in the second when Nathan Smith broke in on a shorthanded 2-on-1, elected to shoot and his slapper found its way through LaCosta.

Sebastian Dahm replaced LaCosta to start the third period.

Lake Erie's Andrew Sarauer potted a goal with just under six minutes remaining in regulation to make it a 4-0 lead and Monsters goalie Tyler Weiman recorded 28 saves to earn the shutout.
