Norfolk Admirals News Release
PHILADELPHIA, PA - Karri Ramo made 30 saves in regulation and stopped all four shooters in the shootout as the Norfolk Admirals (12-16-1-4) defeated the Philadelphia Phantoms (19-11-0-1) 3-2 on Saturday night at the Wachovia Spectrum. The victory was Norfolk's third in a row.
Radek Smolenak tallied his team-leading 12th goal of the season at 14:35 of the first period when he netted a power play goal on assists from Brandon Segal and Blair Jones.
The Phantoms leveled the score at 1-1 at 12:48 of the second period when Jared Ross netted an even strength marker.
However, another power play goal less than five minutes later restored Norfolk's lead. This time, Jason Ward netted his second goal of the season with assists from Steve Downie and Jones. With the assist, Downie stretched his point streak to seven games with the Admirals.
The Phantoms out-shot Norfolk 15-5 in the third period and tied the game at two goals apiece at 14:17 with a Claude Giroux goal.
Brandon Bochenski and Chris Gratton converted Norfolk's first two shootout attempts and Ramo stopped Patrick Maroon, Ross, Giroux and David Laliberte to give Norfolk the victory.
Karri Ramo (32 shots, 30 saves) earned the win. Scott Munroe (35 shots, 33 saves) shouldered the loss.
Norfolk was 2-3 on the power play. Philadelphia was 0-3.
