HERSHEY, Pa. - The Lowell Devils' winless streak stretched to six games as the Hershey Bears took a 4-2 decision on Saturday night at the Giant Center. The Devils went 0-5-0-1 in their last six, while the Bears ended to a two-game slide.
Hershey needed only 11 seconds to get the game's first goal as Keith Aucoin took the opening faceoff and rushed into the Devils zone. From the left wing he sent a pass toward the crease that a driving Graham Mink tipped past Dave Caruso.
Kyle Wilson gave Hershey a two-goal cushion at 15:10 of the first, walking down the right side of the Lowell's end and beating Caruso with a backhander to the stick-side.
Hershey pounced again early in the second frame to push their lead to 3-0. It was Quintin Lang in far corner feathering a pass to the left circle for Andrew Gordon to blast into the open net at 1:34.
Jon DiSalvatore got Lowell on the scoreboard at 12:20 of the same period as he stepped out of the penalty box behind the Hershey defense. Matt Spiller found him at the Bears' blueline, where he muscled off the defenseman and beat Daren Machesney to the near post to cut the score to 3-1.
The Devils continued to put the pressure on late in the contest with Barry Tallackson's first marker of the year. Machesney was able to stop Brad Mills' bid from the far dot, but Tallackson was there to fire back the rebound with 3:38 remaining in regulation.
An empty-netter by Wilson, however, with 41 seconds left in the contest sealed the decision for the Bears.
Caruso turned aside 32-of-35 shots for Lowell in the loss. The Devils were 0-for-5 on the man-advantage and 7-for-7 on the penalty kill.
The Devils finish their weekend road swing on Sunday, December 21 at 4:00pm against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
