Iowa Chops News Release
The Chops got off to a sluggish start in the 1st period, which was assisted by two Peoria power plays. Peoria would strike first after some good saves by Chops goaltender JP Levasseur as an odd-man rush led to a goal from Steve Regier on a one-timer. The Chops mustered a season-low one shot on goal in the 1st period, as they were outshot by the Rivermen 10-1 in the period and trailed 1-0 after the first 20 minutes. The Chops stepped up their physical game in the 2nd period, but with no offensive results. A shorthanded chance by Francis Wathier grazed the glove of Peoria goaltender Ben Bishop, but came to rest on top of the net. The Chops did outshoot the Rivermen 13-11 in the period, but the score remained 1-0 Peoria through two periods. A hit late in the period by defenseman seemed to energize the game, which started to get rough as both teams went to the lockerroom. The 3rd period was controlled by the Rivermen, who got two power play goals from Josh Soares and Chris Conner, while Trent Whitfield scored an even strength goal to put the Rivermen up 4-0. The Chops would only manage one shot on goal in the 3rd period and a season-low 15 for game. Ben Bishop would get the 15-save shutout as the Chops were blanked for the second time this season at home. The Chops travel to Milwaukee to face the Admirals at 4:00pm on Sunday.
