Syracuse Crunch News Release

Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Crunch were shut out by the Albany Devils 4-0 Sunday at the Times Union Center in Albany.

The loss drops the Crunch to 30-31-4-8 on the season and gives the Devils a 4-2-0-0 win in the season series against Syracuse.

Crunch netminder Charles Lavigne allowed four goals on 20 shots in his professional debut while Albany goaltender Scott Wedgewood turned aside all 20 shots faced.

Syracuse failed to convert on four power-play chances and allowed Albany to score on two of eight man-advantage opportunities.

After a scoreless opening frame the Devils struck four times in the second period to carry a 4-0 lead into the final frame.

Albany's Reid Boucher converted on a power-play breakaway at the 12:08 mark to put the Devils ahead 1-0. Assists went to Reece Scarlett and Harri Pesonen. A give-and-go between Boucher and Pesonen led to Boucher's second goal of the game at 15:24 into the second period.

Less than a minute later the Devils went ahead 3-0. Lavigne had made an initial save but the puck trickled behind him and Chris McKelvie tapped it over the goal line for his ninth goal of the season. Pesonen picked up this third assist of the night on the play.

The Devils scored their second power-play goal of the game when Scarlett's shot from the left point made it past Lavigne. Assists went to Joe Whitney and Boucher.

The Syracuse Crunch will conclude their 2013-14 home schedule on Wednesday, April 16 when they host the Adirondack Phantoms.
