St. John's IceCaps News Release
ST. JOHN'S, NL - John Albert scored twice, Carl Klingberg scored and added two assists, and Tyler Beskorowany made 28 saves, as the St. John's IceCaps defeated the Hartford Wolf Pack 6-2 Sunday at Mile One Centre.
Blair Riley, Kael Mouillierat, and Jerome Samson also scored for the IceCaps, who set a single-season franchise record for wins (44) and points (95) with the victory. Jason Jaffray and Zach Redmond each chipped in with two assists.
Hartford opened the scoring 6:57 into the opening frame on a power-play goal from Chris McCarthy. After Beskorowany made the initial save on J.T. Miller, McCarthy jumped on the rebound and fired it low past the IceCaps' netminder to make it 1-0.
Less than two minutes later, however, Riley scored to tie things up at a goal apiece. Finishing off Kyle MacKinnon's wraparound attempt, Riley got a stick on the puck in front and sent it past David LeNeveu.
The IceCaps pulled ahead 2-1 at 14:19, when Albert notched his 26th of the season. After Redmond fired a shot from the point, Albert - battling for position in front - swatted the puck past LeNeveu as he was knocked to the ice.
With 1:25 remaining in the period, Mouillierat scored on the man advantage to extend the lead to two. Taking the feed from Brenden Kichton, Mouillierat wristed a shot from the circle over the glove of LeNeveu to make it 3-1.
In the second period, the IceCaps picked up where they left off with two quick goals midway through the frame. Klingberg finished off a pretty 2-on-1 rush with Eric O'Dell at 10:01, when he took the cross-ice feed before pulling it to his backhand to slide it past Dov Grumet-Morris. Fifty-five seconds later, Samson tipped Klingberg's shot past the Hartford puckstop to make it 5-1.
The Wolf Pack cut the deficit to three on a 5-on-3 man advantage at 12:46, however, when Danny Kristo wristed a shot from the circle that eluded Beskorowany over the glove.
Albert added another tally with 6:03 remaining in the final frame to make it 6-2, tipping in Kris Fredheim's shot from the point past Grumet-Morris, as the IceCaps then finished strong to close out their final home game of the regular season with a victory.
The IceCaps play their second-last game of the season next Friday (9:00 PM NT) in Worcester, when they take on the Sharks at the DCU Center. Catch all the action with broadcaster Brian Rogers on www.stjohnsicecaps.com and 930 AM, or watch online at www.ahllive.com. Pregame gets underway at 8:30.
