Rockford Tripped up in Rosemont
April 13, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rosemont, Ill.- Fortunately, the Rockford IceHogs are out of road games. Unfortunately, the Hogs have just two games left and are fighting for their playoff lives after a 4-2 loss in Rosemont to the Chicago Wolves.
The loss marked the team's franchise record tenth-straight away from home (0-8-1-1) and sixth straight regulation loss on the road. After Oklahoma City's win in Abbotsford on Sunday, Rockford is two points out of the eighth playoff spot with just four points left on the table.
Tied 1-1 in the third period, the Wolves snagged their first lead of the game midway through the frame. Shane Harper spotted Michael Davies cutting to the net and the winger buried his tenth of the season at 10:14 to make it a 2-1 game.
Later in the frame a Jason LaBarbera pass from behind the goal line was knocked down by Chicago's Yannick Veilleux and he found Tyler Shattock open in front of an empty IceHogs net where he notched his fifth marker of the season at 11:44 to put Rockford down 3-1.
Alex Broadhurst pulled the IceHogs back within a tally with his second marker of the game. Broadhurst picked up an Adam Clendening rebound off the left pad of Jake Allen and potted his 16th goal of the season at 14:10.
Rockford pulled LaBarbera in favor of the extra attacker, but the Wolves put the game out of reach with an empty net goal from Alexander Bolduc, his second of the game at 18:48.
For the first time in four games it was the IceHogs who grabbed the game's first goal. Clendening jumped up in the play and took a shot from an off-angle Allen initially stopped. The puck slipped between the legs of Allen and Alex Broadhurst raced in to poke it to the back of the net and put the IceHogs out front 1-0.
The Wolves responded early in the second period to tie the game up at one a piece. The IceHogs negated their own chance with a power play by taking two penalties to give the Wolves a 5-on-3 advantage and Chicago cashed in. Pat Cannone setup Bolduc at 3:07 to even the game at 1-1.
Next Home Game: Friday, April 18 against the Chicago Wolves. The puck drops at 7 p.m. with the first 1,500 fans receiving an IceHogs beach towel courtesy of Peak Fitness.
