Altoona Curve News Release

CURVE, Pa. - Jarek Cunningham's 14th home run of the season broke a, 4-4, tie in the seventh inning and helped lift the Curve to a, 7-4, win and an eighth-straight victory. It's the first time the Curve have won eight straight games since May 20-26, 2010 and it pulls the streak within two games of the franchise-best 10-game win streak from 2005. Cunningham's homer also tied him for the league and team lead with the departed Andrew Lambo.

Altoona actually led the game 4-1 after going down a run in the first. The Curve tied it up at one when Charlie Cutler drew a bases-loaded walk in the first and took the lead in the second when Mel Rojas, Jr. doubled in Gift Ngoepe.

After the Curve built a three-run lead for Casey Sadler, the Fisher Cats were able to score three times to tie the game in the seventh off Sadler plus a pair of Curve relievers. Sadler still ended up with his ninth quality start, which leads the team, after 6.1 innings of three-run ball. Cunningham's solo homer came with two outs in the seventh and put the Curve back in front for the remainder of the night.

Ngoepe and Rojas, Jr. then added key RBIs in the bottom of the eighth to give closer Luis Sanz some room to work with in the ninth. Sanz retired the side and struck out the final batter of the game for the second-straight night and his sixth save of the season.

Rojas, Jr. led the team with three hits on Thursday night and drove in a pair while Ngoepe finished the night with a pair of hits and a pair of runs. Cutler, Andy Vasquez and Cunningham also had a pair of hits in the win with Cutler chipping in a pair of RBIs.

Jhonathan Ramos (1-0) earned the win after he came into the game in relief of Quinton Miller in the seventh. Ramos dealt 1.1 innings and allowed one hit in his first win of the season.

The Curve (33-37) now take their eight-game streak to Bowie where they'll meet the Baysox (AA -Orioles) for the first time this season beginning at 7:05 p.m. from Prince George's Stadium. RHP Nick Kingham (1-0, 0.00) will make his first Double-A road start for the Curve in the lid lifter in Bowie. He'll be opposed by LHP Jake Pettit (3-5, 3.20) on Friday night.

Airtime on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. from Bowie. Altoona will return home beginning Monday night, June 24 with an appearance by the Cowboy Monkeys in the now 6 p.m. doubleheader with the New Britain Rock Cats.
