Akron RubberDucks News Release

AKRON, OHIO - The Akron Aeros announced today that The Plain Dealer's Terry Pluto is the winner in the print category of its first Media Madness Bobblehead Election. Pluto's bobblehead, sponsored by Miller Lite, will be given out to the first 1,000 fans at Canal Park on Saturday, June 29 before the Aeros host the Altoona Curve at 7:05 p.m.

Award-winning sports and religion columnist for the Plain Dealer, and a former columnist with the Akron Beacon Journal, Pluto was born in Cleveland and attended Cleveland State University. He has twice been honored by the Associated Press Sports Editors as the nation's top sports columnist for medium-sized newspapers and he is a nine-time winner of the Ohio Sports Writer of the Year. In 2005 he was inducted into the Cleveland Journalism Hall of Fame. He is the author of 23 books, including The Curse of Rocky Colavito (selected by the New York Times as one of the five notable sports books of 1989), and Loose Balls, which was ranked number 13 on Sports Illustrated's list of the top 100 sports books of all time.

"Terry Pluto is one of Northeast Ohio's most-beloved media members and one of the top writers in the country," said Christina Shisler, Aeros' director of promotions. "The fans really showed their support throughout the entire Media Madness Bobblehead Election and we couldn't be happier to have Pluto, WKYC-TV's Jim Donovan (television), and ESPN 850 WKNR's Tony Rizzo (radio) as this year's winners."

The Media Madness Bobblehead Election started in March when fans were asked to nominate their favorite Northeast Ohio media personality in the categories of print, radio, and television. In April, fans voted from the list of nominees to determine a final top three in each category. The final round of voting started May 1 to determine winners. Fans voted close to 1,500 times in the final round and almost 2,000 times overall with the election.

The other print finalists were the Akron Beacon Journal's Phil Trexler, and Jewell Caldwell.

June 29, like all remaining Saturday games during 2013 season will have fireworks displays. That night's display will have a "Patriotic" theme. It is also Military Appreciation Night and post-game Scout Sleepover night.
