Published on October 7, 2011 under ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
The ECHL preseason will heat up tonight as the Kalamazoo Wings square off against the Toledo Walleye in the first half of a home-and-home series. Last season, the K-Wings captured the season series over the Walleye with a record of 9-3-1-1.
After five days of training camp, the K-Wings are poised to face their first real competition of the preseason. After tonight, the K-Wings will conclude the preseason schedule tomorrow night at the Huntington Center in Toledo.
Like the K-Wings, the Walleye are ready to get their first game of the preseason under their belts. Similar to Kalamazoo, Toledo has 21 players currently in their training camp and will wrap-up their preseason slate at home tomorrow versus the K-Wings.

A Perfect 10
The K-Wings enter training camp with a familiar feel. Kalamazoo has 10 players on their training camp roster that were members of the K-Wings last season Eastern Conference Championship squad; however both Joe Charlebois (Manchester) and Dean Strong (Chicago) are still currently on AHL rosters.
Still in the AHL
Besides Charlebois and Strong, forward Ryan Del Monte is currently in the AHL. Del Monte, who played last year in the ECHL with Cincinnati and South Carolina, is on the AHL roster of Worcester Sharks.
New Affiliations
This season, the K-Wings will be partnered with two NHL teams. In the off-season, the K-Wings agreed to terms on affiliation deals with the Vancouver Canucks and the New Jersey Devils.
Knowing the Enemy
Making his first pro appearance, rookie defenseman Derek Foam will know at least one member of the Walleye. Foam and Toledo forward Paul Zanette were teammates last season at Niagara University.
