Chicago Express News Release
Estero, FL - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, started the preseason out on the right foot with a 4-1 victory over the Florida Everblades.
The Express grabbed the lead in the first period, when C Yannick Tifu grabbed a pass from FMike Embach and blasted it home, granting the Express a 1-0 advantage. C Tyler Johnson also recorded an assist on the play. Just a few seconds later, F Bobby Robins dropped the gloves with Florida's D Tyson Gimblett. The Express carried the 1-0 score into the first intermission.
The Express exploded for three goals in the second, jump-started when LW Blair Riley fought F Leigh Salters after Riley made contact with Florida netminder Pat Nagle. F Travis Vermeulen netted a goal just 7 minutes into the frame, and it was followed up by a RW Pierre-Luc Faubert goal after a hooking call was assessed to Gimblett. Tifu picked up his second goal of the night with 2:12 left in the period, bringing the score to 4-0 at the end of the second period.
The Express maintained their lead, apart from a small hiccup with less than three minutes remaining in play. F Justin Shugg ruined Express G Rob Nolan's shutout bid to put the Everblades on the board. It was the only goal the Express allowed, as they finished the contest with a 4-1 victory. Rob Nolan stopped 27 of 28 shots to earn the win.
The Express will open up the home portion of their schedule on Saturday, October 22nd versus the Kalamazoo Wings with a 7:30 p.m. face-off at the Sears Centre Arena. This inaugural game is sure to be a must have ticket, so make sure you have your ticket for this once in a lifetime game!
