Kalamazoo Wings News Release

After concluding 2010 against one another, the Kalamazoo Wings and Elmira Jackals will commence 2011 battling for the second of four straight games against each other. On the season, the K-Wings are 2-0-0-0 versus the Jackals and have won all five ECHL encounters over the past two years against Elmira.

Registering shorthanded goals in back-to-back games, the K-Wings offense is starting to heat up. Kalamazoo has lit the lamp 12 times over the course of their past two games. With 19 points, the K-Wings enter tonight tied with the Cincinnati Cyclones for second place in the North Division.

Earning just three victories in December, no team in the ECHL is more excited to flip the calendar than the Jackals. Elmira, who leads the league in scoring averaging 3.66 goals-a-night, received a spark to their lineup last night, when leading scorer Justin Donati returned after a bout with the flu.

Daavettila Gets the Call

Earlier today, forward Trent Daavettila was loaned to the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins. Daavettila, who has earned points in 14 out his last 15 games and ranks second on the K-Wings in scoring, is the seventh member of the team to be called-up to the AHL.

Jackal Killer

Defenseman Matt Duffy must love playing against Elmira. Duffy, who was coached last season by Jackals head coach Malcolm Cameron when they were members of the Florida Everblades, has scored both of his goals this season, including last night' s game-winner versus the Jackals.

Fitting Debut

Forward Aaron Clarke made his presence felt in last night's victory. Clarke, who led the ECHL last season with five shorthanded goals, notched his first point as a K-Wing on a shorthanded insurance marker.

Keeping Them Off the Board

Holding the Jackals to two goals last night marked just the second time in their last 16 games that Kalamazoo has kept their opponents under three goals. On the season, the K-Wings have accomplished the feat in six out their 30 contests this season.
