Trenton Devils News Release

Trenton, NJ - After ending 2010 on a sour note, the Trenton Devils bounced back from Friday night's third-period collapse by defeating the Florida Everblades, 5-2, at Sun National Bank Center. Ryan Ginand led the Devils' offense with his second-two goal performance against Florida this season as Trenton raced out to a 3-0 lead in the opening 12:39. Finishing the opening 20 minutes ahead 3-0, the opening period of Saturday's game was the Devils' first plus-three opening period since October 17 vs. Reading.

A night after allowing three goals in the third period to Florida, the Devils came out firing Saturday, with Ginand blazing a slap shot past goaltender Bobby Goepfert 46 seconds into the game. Ginand's one-timer was set up by Ryan Hayes, who earned his 12th helper of the season on the play, one night after Hayes' nine-game scoring streak was stopped. It was the first of two assists on the night for Hayes, who with 25 points is second on Trenton's roster in scoring. Jeff Prough and Kory Nagy followed Ginand's game-opening score by also notching goals in the first period, with Brad Miller and Dan Charleston getting assists on Prough's goal, and Ryan Ginand and Ryan Hayes assisting Nagy's marker. Miller's assist was one of two by the Alpharetta, GA native on the evening, with his two assists coming as his first two even-strength points in a Trenton uniform.

A Trenton defensive-zone miscue allowed Francis Lemieux and Mitch Fadden, the ECHL's top two scorers, to combine for Florida's first goal halfway through the second period. Ryan Ginand restored Trenton's three-goal bulge by making the score 4-1. Ginand 15th goal of the season came after the recently named All-Star tucked the puck under Goepfert with 4:31 remaining in the middle stanza.

A shorthanded goal by Florida's Cedric Lalonde-McNicoll cut the Devils lead to 4-2 at the 5:22 mark of the third period, but Trenton maintained its two-goal advantage, with Dave Leaderer putting an exclamation point on Trenton's solid team effort by finishing the game's scoring into an empty net.

Going 3-2 on their 14-day, five-game home stand, the Devils improve to 13-14-0-2 as they next travel to South Carolina to face the Stingrays three times next weekend. The first game of the set on Friday night will be the Devils' first road game since December 17 when they defeated the Elmira Jackals, 4-2, at First Arena. The puck drops in South Carolina on Friday and Saturday are set for 7:05 p.m., with the Devils and Stingrays wrapping up their weekend with a 4:00 p.m. contest Sunday.
