Elmira Jackals News Release

Kalamazoo, Mich. - The Elmira Jackals (14-10-5-0) dropped a 5-2 decision to the Kalamazoo Wings (13-13-1-2) on Friday night at Wings Stadium in the Jackals' final game of the 2010 calendar year. The Jackals and the K-Wings meet again on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.

Elmira solved Kalamazoo goaltender Riley Gill twice in the opening minutes of the game, with Patrick Coulombe starting the contest by driving the puck past his glove on a feed from Tyler Donati in the slot at 3:37 of the first period to give the Jackals the 1-0 lead. After Andrew Fournier tipped in a puck from the top of the crease to even the score 1:07 later, Corey Cowick put Elmira back on top with a shot from the slot that deflected off the right shoulder of Gill at 6:45 and into the net to give the Jackals the 2-1 advantage.

In the second period, Darryl Lloyd's shot on a two-on-two rush from the left circle flew past the glove side of Daren Machesney, Elmira's goaltender, to tie the game, 2-2, at 7:42. Matt Duffy connected with a center-point drive at the 17:05 mark to put Kalamazoo in front for the remainder of the battle, 3-2.

Aaron Clarke scored his first goal with Kalamazoo after being acquired by the K-Wings earlier this week from Stockton at 9:43 of the third period, getting free on a breakaway and backhanding the puck past Machesney while short handed to extened Kalamazoo's lead to 4-2. Darryl Lloyd finished a two-on-one rush at 15:09 with a goal from the right circle to cap the scoring, 5-2.

Machesney made 38 saves on 43 shots while falling to 1-4-0-0 with the Jackals. Gill improved to 4-4-0-0 with the K-Wings, making stopping 26 of 28 shots.

The Jackals and the K-Wings meet for the second of four-straight times on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Wings Stadium.

Note: Prior to Friday night's game, the Syracuse Crunch, Elmira's AHL affiliate, assigned forward Jon Mirasty to the Jackals. Mirasty has led the Crunch in penalty minutes in each of the last two seasons and is third all-time on Syracuse with 751 penalty minutes.
