The clubs played an exciting, fast-paced opening frame. The Aces outshot the Reign 15-6 in the period, but Ontario struck first. Aaron Lewadniuk scored at 11:57 from the bottom of the left circle to make it 1-0 Ontario. The Aces evened the score on a power play when Mark Isherwood buried a one-timer at 18:00 to send the clubs to the locker room tied 1-1.

The Reign again took a lead in the second period on a power play. Dusty Collins' centering feed deflected off of Chad Anderson's stick and into the Aces net at 9:18 to give Ontario a 2-1 lead. The Aces turned the tide with a quick pair of goals late in the frame. After Ontario defenseman Pat Bowen fell down trying to keep in a puck at the blue line, Zach Harrison entered the offensive zone on a two-on-one and found Scott Howes in the right circle for the equalizer at 16:09. Then 66 seconds later, Garry Nunn's centering pass from the right corner bounced off of traffic and into the Ontario net to give Alaska their first lead, and a 3-2 advantage after two periods.

Lewadniuk tied the game late in the third with a gorgeous, highlight-reel goal at 14:08. But the Aces responded on the next shift, and reclaimed the lead just 44 seconds later. Brian Swanson scored on a one-timer from the high slot that caromed in off of Kellen Briggs' arm to make it 4-3 Alaska. Howes added an empty net goal to cap the scoring at 5-3.

Gerald Coleman (13-7-1) made 21 saves on 24 shots for the win. Kellen Briggs (9-15-1) suffered the loss, making 31 saves on 35 shots. The Aces power play went 1-5, while the Reign went 1-2. The Aces outshot the Reign 36-24 in the game.
