Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Countdown to Face-off Kalamazoo Wings Vs Elmira Jackals Wings Stadium Kalamazoo, MI Wednesday, January 8, 2003 7:00 PM
Game Preview Tonight will mark the third of six meetings between the K-Wings and the Jackals this season. Both Kalamazoo and Elmira have won a game against one another this season, however both those games were played in Elmira.
While this will be a battle of East versus West the game will have some playoff implications. The K-Wings enter the game in fifth place in the Western Conference with 33 points, while Elmira enters the game in a tie with the Flint Generals for fourth place in the Eastern Conference. With the new UHL playoff format this season the fifth place team in a conference can make the playoffs in the other conference if they have more points then the fourth place team, which means the K-Wings who trail Muskegon by 7 points entering tonight's action for fourth place, would also have to make up ground on both Elmira and Flint.
Elmira enters the game on a 4 game road winless streak. The Jackals are led by Randy Murphy, who leads the team in scoring with 42 points. Also, the Jackals may have the top enforcer in the league with Brad Wingfield. Wingfield enters the game with a league leading 309 minutes in penalties, as well as a 16 game penalty streak.
The K-Wings enter the game looking to gain some momentum from their victory in Port Huron on Sunday. The K-Wings will be without defenseman Mark Phenow, who was placed on the 7 day-IR after suffering an injury in the K-Wings game in Flint on Saturday. While Phenow will be out of action, the K-Wings will welcome back Justin Cardwell, who hasn't played since mid-November due to injury.

Phenow Placed on IR The K-Wings will be without the services of defenseman Mark Phenow. Phenow, who was injured in the K-Wings game against Flint last Saturday, has been place on the teams 7-day injured reserved list.
Eight's Not Enough Forward Mark Lawrence enters tonight on an 8game point streak. Lawrence's 8 game point streak is the longest point streak this season by a K-Wings player.
Get the Point Mark Lawrence isn't the only K-Wings player entering the game on a point streak. Forward Peter Roed enters tonight on a 4 game point streak, while Jim Brown has managed a point in 6 of his last 7 games.
