
Tripp to Play for NHL New York Rangers Tonight

Pensacola, FL - Former Pensacola Ice Pilot forward John Tripp is expected to make his NHL debut tonight with the New York Rangers as the Rangers will host the Carolina Hurricanes at Madison Square Garden at 6 p.m. central time.
Tripp played for the Ice Pilots the last two years playing in 49 games last year scoring 25 goals, 27 assists for 52 points and picked up 114 penalty minutes. He played in 36 games for the Ice Pilots during the 2000-2001 season scoring 19 goals, 14 assists for 33 points and picked up 110 penalty minutes.
Tripp started this season playing for Hartford in the AHL scoring 21 goals, 11 assists for 32 points and picked up 44 penalty minutes in 38 games played. He is second in the AHL with his 21 goals and fourth in the league with 139 shots. Tripp was selected to the Canadian team in the American Hockey League All-Star game this year.
Tripp becomes the fifth Ice Pilots player that has played for the Ice Pilots and advance to the NHL. The others are forward Glen Metropolit who is currently playing for the Washington Capitals, goalie Sean Gauthier who played in one game for the San Jose Sharks, goalie Evgeny Konstantinov who was called up to Tampa Bay and played in one game for the Lightning this year and forward Gaetan Royer who played in three games for Tampa Bay last year and is currently on the Ice Pilots roster.
The Ice Pilots next home game is Sunday vs. Toledo at 5:05 p.m. It is Kids Day. Kids 12 and under get in free with a paid adult. A post game skate with the players will take place after the game. Cost is $3 which includes skate rental.
