Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Countdown to Face-Off Kalamazoo Wings Vs Fort Wayne Komets Wings Stadium Kalamazoo, MI Wednesday, February 19, 2003 7:00 PM
Game Preview A rivalry will get renewed tonight as the Kalamazoo Wings host the Fort Wayne Komets at Wings Stadium. The game will mark the sixth of seven meetings between the teams this season. So far this year, the K-Wings are 2-2-1 against their archrivals the Fort Wayne Komets.
The Komets enter the contest with a two game winning streak. Fort Wayne will be without team captain Colin Chaulk will missed all three of Fort Wayne's games last weekend due to family matters. Even without their captain, the Komets have extended their lead over Adirondack for the top spot in the Eastern Conference by 3 points. While, Chualk will not return to the Komets roster until Friday, they do possess the biggest roadblock in the league with goaltender Tom Lawson. Lawson is 23-11-5 on the season, and owns a UHL low 1.85 goals against average.
For the K-Wings, tonight will start a four game home stand, which will conclude a week from tonight against Muskegon. In total, the K-Wings have 19 games (including tonight) remaining in the regular season, with 12 of those games to be played here at Wings Stadium. Kalamazoo enters the game fresh off ending their season high 9 game winless streak with a 4-1 victory over Missouri, however, the K-Wings will be looking to end another streak here tonight, as the K-Wings have dropped 5 straight at Wings Stadium. Ironically enough, the last time the K-Wings won a home was on Wednesday, January 29th against Fort Wayne. Kalamazoo is still very much apart of the playoff picture. They trail Rockford by just 4 games, and Flint by 4 ½ games for the final playoff spot in the UHL. Flint is in action tonight as they host Muskegon, while Rockford is idle.
