San Diego Gulls News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- The San Diego Gulls continued their dominance over the Long Beach Ice Dogs with a 4-1 victory Wednesday night, before 1,047 at the Long Beach Arena. San Diego has now beaten its So Cal rival eight straight times and 10 of 11 this season.

More importantly for the Gulls (32-16-3), they pick up two points on the idle Bakersfield Condors and Fresno Falcons. The Blue and Orange now lead second-place Bakersfield by four points and fourth-place Fresno by eight points.

San Diego took a grasp of the game early, outshooting Long Beach 18-4 in the first period. Ashlee Langdone gave the Gulls the lead, something they wouldn't relinquish, with his second goal at 14:25. Sandro Sbrocca dished the puck inside the blue line to Trent Clark, whose wrist was juggled by Mike Buzak. Langdone, standing on the doorstep, was right there for the rebound and easily tipped it in.

The shooting gallery continued early in the second and the Gulls built a commanding 3-0 lead. Dean Tiltgen notched his 23rd at 1:08, deflecting home a Trevor Sherban slap shot from the high slot. Some 51 seconds later, Dan Cousineau grabbed a pass from Sylvain Deschatelets and punched in his second, past a screened Buzak.

Long Beach (16-30-3) got on the board with a shorthanded tally 16:49 through the middle frame, taking advantage of a poor Gulls line change. After clearing the puck into the Ice Dogs zone, all five San Diego skaters went toward the bench. The puck chipped up to center ice where Jamie O'Leary pounced on it. O'Leary skated in 2-0 with newcomer Mike Barrie, who took a pass and beat Cris Classen dead-to-rights for his 12th marker.

Mark Pederson, reigning West Coast Hockey League Player of the Week, regained San Diego's three-goal cushion with his 32nd goal. With the power play, Kevin Grant slid a cross-ice feed to Sherban, whose shot was tipped in by Pederson skating in front of the net.
