Generals Pack the House Night on Feb. 28

February 19, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greensboro Generals News Release

Greensboro, NC — When the Greensboro Generals of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) host the Columbia Inferno on Friday, February 28 at 7:30 at the Greensboro Coliseum, they will have a full-blown cornucopia of events to go along with it. The Generals will be holding their "Pack the House" night, adding a "turn back the clock" theme to go with it.

As part of the Generals attempt to "Pack the House", the players will be wearing circa 1995 jerseys of the American Hockey League's Carolina Monarchs for the evening. Those jerseys will be auctioned off to the fans in a live-auction format immediately following the game. In honor of that team, the Generals will also be giving away 1,000 bobblehead dolls of perhaps the most successful Monarch, goaltender Kevin Weekes, who played in Greensboro with the Monarchs from 1995 – 97. Weekes' jersey number 00 will also be the second number to be retired into the Greensboro Hockey Hall of Fame, joining the number 5 of Pat Kelly, the ECHL's Commissioner Emeritus.

Another major draw to "Pack the House" is the appearance of WWE's Shawn Michaels. Michaels will be on hand to sign autographs before the game and during the first period, and will also drop the ceremonial first puck. For any devout Michaels' followers, the "Heart Break Kid" will also host a private, limited seating meet-and-greet dinner at the Greensboro Coliseum before the game. For any fans interested in joining Shawn Michaels for dinner, please contact David King in the Generals business offices at (336) 218-5428, X-21.

With the help of the Greensboro Coliseum, the Generals will also be offering a concession special on "Pack the House" night. For only $2.50, Generals will be able to receive a hot dog and a Carolina Monarchs souvenir sports bottle beverage. The Generals merchandise stand, the "Supply Tent", will also have a Monarchs special, selling Monarchs pennants for just $1.00.

For those looking for a price break to get into the Coliseum for "Pack the House" night, group tickets are definitely the way to do it. The Generals are offering tickets for only $6.00 each for groups of only ten or more people, and $5.00 each for groups of significant numbers. Anyone company, church group, or group of friends or family looking to plan a group night out should also contact David King.

Topping off the push to "Pack the House" on February 28 is the Generals nine-day long roof sit-in. Generals' players, staff, coach Rick Adduono, and several members of the media and community will be living on the roof of Plum Krazy's restaurant, located at 106 Guilford College Rd. just north of the West Market St. intersection. The push begins tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. and runs through 6:00 p.m. on game day, February 28. The schedule of people on the roof and events that will accompany them will be detailed in a separate release.

From the moment the roof sit-in begins at 7:00 a.m. on the 20th until it ends at 6:00 p.m. on game day, a total of ten percent of the ticket sales during that time will be split between two charities, the Make-A-Wish Foundation along with a charity of Kevin Weekes' choice.

"Sports fans haven't seen an event like this in the Piedmont since January 18, 1997, when the Monarchs drew over 20,000 into the Coliseum," stated Generals' co-owner and president Rocco Scarfone (SKAR-foan). "By turning back the clock to the days of the Monarchs, we want the fans of six or seven years ago to come back to the Coliseum and honor not only the Monarchs, but the sport of hockey in the city of Greensboro and also the Generals. Anyone who goes to this game on February 28 will get everything they want out of their entertainment dollar."

For anyone seeking more information on "Pack the House" night or any other Generals event, please contact the Generals at (336) 218-5428 or click on the Generals team website, www.greensborogenerals.com.
