Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, IL - Shawn Haviland pitched 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball, Jamie Richmond pitched shutout relief and three players had a multi-hit game as the Kane County Cougars rolled past the South Bend Silver Hawks, 6-1, Monday night in front of 3,681 at Elfstrom Stadium. The Cougars finished their longest home stand of the season with a 6-4 mark and now embark on a six-game road trip to Fort Wayne and Dayton.

Mitch LeVier's first professional home run in the third gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead, and after the Silver Hawks tied the game in the fifth, Franklin Hernandez notched a run-scoring fielder's choice in the sixth for a lead the Cougars never gave back. Then in the seventh Matt Ray doubled home LeVier, and Jason Christian poked a two-run single and scored on a balk for the 6-1 final.

Haviland (3-1) posted his third straight quality start, scattering eight hits over 6 1/3 innings while walking one and fanning nine in the win. Richmond posted his second save, allowing just one hit over the final 2 2/3 innings. South Bend starter Brett Moorhouse (0-3) took the loss.

The Cougars (16-8) start their six-game road Tuesday night at 6:05 CDT in Fort Wayne against the Tincaps. Pedro Figueroa (2-1, 2.95) will face Stiven Osuna (1-2, 3.63).
