Bees Force Extras But Lose

Burlington, IA (May 4, 2009) - The Burlington Bees played their second extra inning game in as many days Monday night at Community Field. The result Monday night was not the same as Sunday as the Bees fell to West Michigan 3-1 in ten innings.

The White Caps got on the board first in the game by scoring one run in the second inning. The score remained 1-0 all the way until the bottom of the eighth. With one out, Eric Hosmer walked and then Wilson Tucker came in as a pinch-runner at first base. With two outs, David Wood singled to move Tucker to second base. Salvador Perez then singled to score Tucker and tie the score 1-1.

The game went to the tenth inning where West Michigan scored two runs in their half to take a 3-1 lead. The Bees got the tying run on in the bottom of the tenth but could not plate any more runs. With the loss, the Bees lost the series two games to one.

Sam Runion got the start for the Bees and pitched well. In five innings, he allowed one run on four hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Carson Bryant pitched three innings of no-hit baseball. Barry Bowden was charged with his first loss of the season allowing two runs in two innings of work.

The Bees outhit West Michigan 10-6. Perez had three hits in the game. Hosmer and J.D. Alfaro each had two hits.

The Bees begin a ten-game road trip on Tuesday as they will begin the trip by playing three games at Wisconsin. Tuesday's game begins at 6:35 and Manauris Baez is the scheduled starter. The game can be heard on News-Radio 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com. The Bees will return to Community Field for a ten-game home stand beginning Saturday, May 16.
