Peoria Chiefs News Release

PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs have announced that infielder and utility man David Macias has been promoted to Triple-A Iowa. Macias leaves the Chiefs in the midst of their three-game set in Cedar Rapids and joins the Iowa Cubs in Des Moines in time for a Monday night contest against the Nashville Sounds.

Macias, a 19th round pick in 2008, hit .282 in 14 games with the Chiefs. The 23 year-old smacked two doubles and recorded back-to-back two-RBI games in an April 23 doubleheader at Wisconsin. Macias saw time at third base, second base, first base and centerfield for the Chiefs in 2009. Residing from The Woodlands, Texas, Macias spent all of 2008 with Boise where he hit .228 with nine doubles and 16 RBIs in 54 games. The 5'9, 175 pounder played his college at Vanderbilt with fellow Chiefs infielder Ryan Flaherty. This marks the third straight season the Chiefs have sent a player directly to Triple-A Iowa. Nate Samson went to Des Moines last August for the playoffs and RHP Juan Mateo went from Peoria to Iowa in 2007. Peoria and Cedar Rapids will wrap up a three-game set in Iowa Monday night. The Chiefs will send RH Chris Archer (1-0, 1.59) to the mound against RH Manuarys Correa (1-2, 6.56), who the Chiefs beat last week in Peoria. Monday night's game marks the midway point of the Chiefs 12-game road trip that continues in Lansing on Tuesday and concludes in Fort Wayne on Sunday. Peoria returns home May 12 for a doubleheader against Quad Cities in the first two games of a five-game series.
