Kernels rally, then fall to Chiefs, 4-3

May 4, 2009 - Beau Brooks capped a perfect 3 for 3 night at the plate with a game tying two run HR in the 8th inning, only to see Kyler Burke's RBI double in the top of the 9th give the Peoria Chiefs a 4-3 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Monday night at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Brooks had two singles and his home run was his first this year. Kernels starter Manuarys Correa allowed three runs on seven hits, walked four and struck out three over five innings in a no-decision effort. Francis Cabrera (1-3) was tagged with the loss, allowing five hits over 2.2 innings.

Alexi Amarista, Gabe Jacobo, Adam Younger and Jon Towsend each had a single as the Kernels were held to seven hits.

The Chiefs pounded out 12 hits tonight with Junior Lake going 3 for 4 and Rebel Ridling 2 for 5 with two runs scored. Reliever Josh Whitlock (1-1) picked up the win despite giving up the game tying home run and Kevin Kreier retired the Kernels in the ninth for his second save.

The Kernels hit the road for six games starting Tuesday, May 5th at South Bend. They return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Tuesday, May 12th and open a four game series with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.
