May 4, 2009 - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announce that OF Roberto Lopez joins the Kernels from extended Spring Training in Tempe, AZ. Abe Flores, Director of Player Development for the LA Angels, announced the move on Wednesday.

Lopez, 23, was selected by the Angels in the 25th round of the 2008 Free Agent Draft out of the University of Southern California (USC) and played in 67 games last season with Orem. He led the Pioneer League in seven offensive categories: batting average (.400), runs (68), hits (108), doubles (28), RBI (72), slugging percentage (.667) and on-base percentage (.480).

To make room on the Kernels active roster, catcher C.J. Bressoud has been assigned to extended Spring Training in Tempe, AZ.

Lopez will arrive in Cedar Rapids this afternoon and will be in uniform and available for tonight's 6:35 pm game with the Peoria Chiefs. With today's roster moves, the Kernels roster remains at the MWL maximum of 25 active players, with two players currently on the disabled list.

The Kernels wrap up a six game home stand tonight at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium against the Peoria Chiefs at 6:35 pm. Tickets may be purchased on-line at www.kernels.com , or by calling the Kernels Ticket Office at 896-7560. Gates open at 5:30 pm.
