Great Lakes Loons News Release

Great Lakes Loons shortstop Dee Gordon has been named the Midwest League Player of the Week. He is the first Loon to be given the award as a hitter and is just the third player to be honored with a weekly award in franchise history.

Gordon played in all seven of the Loons' games last week, hitting a robust .424 (14-for-33) with 10 runs scored and seven runs batted in. He drilled his first home run as a Loon, ripped three triples and a double, and stole four bases as part of his big week.

Gordon raised his batting average from .274 entering last week to .326 entering play today. His 31 hits this season leads the Midwest League in that category, and his four triples are tied for the league lead in that department.

With the honor, Gordon is the first Loon recognized with a weekly award since Cody White was named pitcher of the week on June 26, 2007. Clayton Kershaw was the first Great Lakes player to receive a weekly award when he was named pitcher of the week on June 5, 2007.

Gordon and the Loons open a 10-game homestand tomorrow against Quad Cities. Game time is 7:05 p.m, and tickets are available by calling (989) 837-BALL or visiting www.loons.com.

The Great Lakes Loons are the third-year Single-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
