Kane County Cougars News Release
Geneva, IL - Kane County Cougars infielder Tommy Everidge nailed a pinch-hit triple in the bottom of the 13th inning and scored on an error to give the Cougars a 7-6 win over the Swing of the Quad Cities. The game lasted well over four hours, featured 13 pitchers and was seen by 10,291 fans at Elfstrom Stadium. Javier Herrera set up Everidge's dramatics by tying the game in the tenth with a run-scoring double.
The Swing scored a run in the second off Cougars starter Ryan Webb to make it 1-0, but Luis Perez drove in two with a single in the third off Tyler Adamczyk for a 2-1 Kane County lead. Jose Pineda drove in one in the fourth for a 3-1 game, and Quad Cities regained control with a three-run fifth. Once again Kane County responded in its half, as Eddie Kim, in his first game back from the disabled list, smacked a two-run homer for a 5-4 score. Dan Fyvie, a Cougar last season who rejoined the team Friday, allowed the tying tally in the seventh on a sacrifice fly. The 5-5 tie remained through the ninth, as Kane County's Mike Mitchell and Derek Tharpe kept the game going with shutout relief.
Rob Semerano gave up a solo homer to the Swing's Mike Ferris in the tenth that put Quad Cities up 6-5, but the Cougars answered again. Cliff Pennington walked, stole second and scored on Herrera's double off Jaymie Torres to send it further into extra frames. Everidge replaced Kim and tripled off Bo Dickerson, setting up Myron Leslie's grounder to third base that went between the legs of Chris Patrick for a 7-6 finish.
J.R. Pickens (3-1) got the win for the Cougars after two scoreless innings, and Dickerson (2-1) suffered the loss. Kane County (17-18) and Quad Cities (21-14) play game two of the four-game series Saturday night at 6 CDT.
