South Bend, IN - There are three teams from the state of Michigan playing in the Midwest League. Going into their game against the Lansing Lugnuts, the Silver Hawks had a winning record against all three. Friday night, the Hawks winning percentage against the three Michigan teams improved with the Hawks collecting a 9-5 win over Lansing
The Silver Hawks broke a 3-3 tie wide open in the fifth. Emilio Bonifacio led off with a bunt single and advanced to third on throwing error by Lansing starter Russ Savickas. Wilkin Castillo's single to left scored Bonifacio. Agustin Murillo followed with a single to left field advancing Castillo to second. With Cesar Nicolas batting, Savickas uncorked a wild pitch. Moving Castillo to third and Murillo to second. Nicolas walked to load the bases to set the stage for Jereme Milons. Milons singles to right field off reliever Jordy Templet plating Castillo and Murillo to forge the Hawks to a 5-3 lead. Mark Reynolds followed with a double to right field chasing Nicolas home and Milons to give the hawks a 7-3 lead. Mark Reynolds advanced to third on Orlando Mercado's sacrifice and scored when Travis Gulick doubled to left field giving the Hawks an 8-3 lead. Gulick then scored when Wilkin Castillo singled to right, making it 9-3 Silver Hawks.
South Bend's Steven Jackson (7-4) picks up the win, while Russ Savickas (5-4) suffers the loss.
The Silver Hawks (61-44) continue their series with the Lansing Lugnuts (53-51 Saturday. The Silver Hawks will start Koley Kolberg (4-5) against the Lugnuts Chi-Hung Cheng (4-6). Saturday's are Meijer Family Fun Saturday with Sunny 101.5. Fans can pick up a discount voucher at Meijer and receive 4 box seat tickets, 4 hot dogs, 4 Pepsi products and a game program for just $24.00. First pitch is slated for 7:00 PM.
