Kane County Cougars News Release
BELOIT, Wisc. - The Kane County Cougars trailed the Beloit Snappers 2-0 in the middle on Wednesday night, tied it late, took the lead in the ninth and lost it in the bottom half, falling 5-3 at Pohlman Field.
Starter Scott Deal pitched one of his best games of the year, lasting seven innings for the third time this season and tying a career-high with six strikeouts. He allowed five hits and walked one in what became a no-decision. Beloit scored against him on two solo homers, one by Danny Valencia in the fourth and another by Garrett Olson in the fifth.
The Cougars, held to three hits through five against Cole Devries, broke through in the seventh when Mike Affronti singled and later scored on a throwing error after a wild pitch. Isaac Omura's two-out, run-scoring single off Jesus Carnevales in the seventh scored Greg Dowling for another unearned run and made it 2-2. Branden Dewing worked a scoreless eighth to keep the game tied.
In the ninth Jermaine Mitchell led off with a single and raced to third on a one-out blooper by Alex Valdez. Then Todd Johnson lined a pitch to left, and Mitchell sprinted home on the sacrifice fly for a 3-2 Cougars lead. Closer Scott Moore walked Valencia to start the bottom of the ninth, and after Johnny Woodard flied out to deep left, Joe Benson drew a walk, setting up Chris Parmelee's game-ending three-run homer. Moore (0-3) suffered the defeat, and Dan Leatherman (5-2) got the win.
