Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

BURLINGTON, IA -- The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers hit four home runs Wednesday afternoon against the Burlington Bees at Community Field. Those round trippers -- by Kuo Hui Lo, Alex Liddi, Carlos Peguero, and Gerardo Avila -- helped the Rattlers erase an early 6-1 deficit. However, Kurt Mertins hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to break an 8-8 tie. The Bees held on for a 10-9 win.

Lo, who had three hits in the game, gave the Rattlers (16-35) a 1-0 lead with a solo home run in the top of the first inning. But, the lead would not last.

Rattler starter Steve Richard got through a scoreless first inning, but did not retire any of the eight batters he faced in the bottom of the second. Richard gave up a walk, a single, and another walk to the first three batters of the frame to load the bases. Then, Alvi Morel drew a walk to force in a run to tie the game. Derrick Robinson, Chris McConnell, and Jeff Bianchi contributed RBI singles for a 4-1 lead. Brady Everett drew another bases loaded walk to force in a run and force Richard from the game. An RBI fielder's choice by Joe Dickerson made it 6-1.

The Rattler bats chopped away at the deficit right away in the top of the third. Andy Hargrove doubled in a pair of runs. Liddi lined a long homer to left to get Wisconsin to within 6-5.

The score stayed that way until the bottom, of the fifth. Mertins tripled to start the inning. Jeff Howell followed with a homer and the Bees (22-28) were up 8-5.

Wisconsin went back to the long ball to tie the game in the top of the seventh. Peguero hit a two-run homer over the center field wall off Burlington reliever Henry Barrera to make it an 8-7 score. Avila's first home run of the season, an opposite field line drive to left, tied the game.

Burlington got back in front in the bottom of the eighth inning on, what else, a home run. Mertins drove a 1-1 pitch from Andrew Barb over the left field wall for a two-run homer and a 10-8 lead.

The Rattlers weren't done. Lo doubled to start the ninth. Peguero followed with an RBI double to make it a 10-9 game. But, Aaron Hartstock got a strike out, a ground out, and another strike out to end the game and send the Rattlers to their fourth straight loss.

The Rattlers and Bees continue their series on Thursday night on Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Wisconsin has Rob Harmon (1-2, 5.25) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. Burlington is sending Ryan DiPietro (1-2, 4.42) to the hill. Game time is 7:05pm.
