Kane County Cougars News Release
GRAND CHUTE, WI - Home runs by Jason Rogers and Yadiel Rivera guided the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to a 7-3, series-opening victory over the Kane County Cougars on Saturday night at Fox Cities Stadium.
Rogers's blast came first against Kellen Moen (2-2) in the bottom of the third inning as he broke a 1-1 tie with his fifth dinger of the season. Kane County (23-20) scored first as Lane Adams doubled home Danny Mateo in the top of the first. Wisconsin quickly tied the game in the second as Rafael Neda knocked in Rivera with a two-bagger.
In the fourth, Dean Espy clubbed his first home run as a Cougar, a two-run shot, to even the score at 3-3 against starter Chad Thompson. Thompson only lasted four innings while striking out seven. He gave way to Mark Williams (2-3), who didn't allow a hit over his five scoreless innings.
Rivera began the bottom of the fourth with a tie-breaking solo shot off Moen. Max Walla added an RBI single to bring home Carlos George. Wisconsin grabbed a couple more in the seventh against Malcom Culver as Greg Hopkins doubled in Rogers while Parker Berberet scored on a sac fly from Rivera.
The Cougars stay on the road Sunday afternoon when they battle the Timber Rattlers from Fox Cities Stadium at 1:05. Right-hander Brooks Pounders (2-1) starts for the Cougars against fellow righty David Goforth (3-3).
