Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Fort Wayne, IN - Joel Caminero hit his first home run of the season, and the Bowling Green Hot Rods (24-19) beat the Fort Wayne TinCaps (19-24) 9-3 at Parkview Field on Saturday night. In the opener of the three-game series, Jeff Malm and Josh Sale both drove in three runs, and Felipe Rivero hurled five, strong innings of relief to grab his fifth win. The win is Bowling Green's second consecutive on the road and their seventh in the last nine games.
Malm's first run driven in occurred in the top of the first and gave the Hot Rods the early lead. Todd Glaesmann, who had two hits of his own on the night, walked with two outs in the frame. Malm then came to the plate and drove a ball deep into the gap in right-centerfield to plate Glaesamann to score the game's first run.
Fort Wayne then scored the game's next two runs, but the Hot Rods answered with two tallies in the top of the fifth. A Malm walk was followed by Ryan Brett and Drew Vettleson singles, and the bases were loaded for the red-hot Sale. Sale then lined a single into left-centerfield to score two runs, allowing the Hot Rods to re-take the 3-2 lead.
Needing an insurance or two in the top of the seventh inning, the Hot Rods scored five times. Malm doubled home two more runs, and Sale brought home one with a double of his own. Later in the frame with two outs, Caminero lifted a ball to left field the landed just past the top of the wall for a two-run home run, his first in a Hot Rods uniform. At the seventh-inning stretch, the Hot Rods held a 8-3 lead.
Usual-starter Felipe Rivero appeared in relief for Parker Markel, who threw two innings in the starter's role in his return from the Disabled List. Rivero allowed one run in five innings for his third win of the season. Both teams traded runs in the eighth inning, and Bowling Green won 9-3.
The Hot Rods continue the season's longest road trip on Sunday afternoon at Parkview Field at 2:05 CDT. Bowling Green will give the start to LHP Ryan Carpenter (5-2, 4.43), and the TinCaps (Future Padres) will send RHP Collin Rea (0-3, 4.81) to the mound.
