GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars held a 4-2 lead through seven innings Wednesday night against the Great Lakes Loons but saw it slip during a long eighth inning and lost, 5-4, in front of 6,154 at Elfstrom Stadium. It was only the fourth time this season (20-4) that the Cougars lost a home game when scoring first.

The Cougars jumped ahead in the fourth inning with three runs against Justin Miller. Jemile Weeks drew a bases-loaded walk, and Michael Richard extended his hitting streak to eight games with a two-run double. After the Loons got two in the fifth against starter Scott Deal, Greg Dowling singled home Larry Cobb in the bottom half to give the Cougars a 4-2 lead.

Deal worked a season-high seven innings, gave up two runs on five hits, walked none and fanned three in what became a no-decision. Nick Walters allowed a two-out, three-run homer in the eighth to Andrew Lambo that turned the game around, 5-4. One of the runs went against Brent Lysander, and the other two were charged to Walters (1-3), who took the loss. The Cougars, who stranded 13 runners, loaded the bases in the ninth against closer Miguel Ramirez but failed to score.

The Cougars (9-16) and Loons (10-16) continue their three-game series Thursday night at 6:30 CT. Lance Sewell (2-2, 2.83) will oppose Victor Garate (5-3, 2.04).
