Peoria, Ill. - Rebel Ridling went 3-for-5 with a home run Wednesday night, leading the Peoria Chiefs to an 8-1 win in the opener of a three-game series with the Lansing Lugnuts at O'Brien Field.

Ridling got to work in the first inning by ripping a double down the left field line. The two-bagger plated Brandon Guyer from second base and gave the Chiefs a 1-0 lead.

It was still a 1-1 game in the sixth inning when the Lugnuts had their best chance to tie the game. Lansing had runners at first and second with two men out when Kevin Ahrens lifted a fly ball towards the left field wall. However Peoria outfielder Brandon Guyer leapt up nine feet and snagged the ball while crashing into the wall, denying Ahrens of a hit while keeping the Lugnuts off of the scoreboard.

The Chiefs would take advantage of that play in their half of the sixth, when Ridling and Cliff Andersen each doubled, pushing the lead to 2-0.

Peoria would blow the game open in the seventh. Jonathan Wyatt blasted a solo homer off of Luis Perez that made the game 3-0.

The dinger also forced Perez (4-7) out of the game. He lasted 6 1/3 innings and gave up three runs on nine hits while taking the loss.

The Chiefs would add more to their lead in the inning when Ridling belted a long two-run homer to center field off of reliever Jimmy Dougher, extending the lead to 5-0.

Ridling finished the game 3-for-5 with two doubles, a homer, and three RBI.

Peoria scored three more times in the eighth, highlighted by a two-run single by Jovan Rosa.

Jay Jackson (1-0) got the win for the Chiefs in relief after hurling 4 1/3 innings. He surrendered just two hits while fanning eight.

Craig Muschko tossed the final three innings, allowing Lansing's lone run in the ninth, for the save.

Lansing (55-41, 16-10) and Peoria (48-46, 18-8) will continue the series Thursday night at 8:00 p.m.
