Rough start for Weber costs Whitecaps

BELOIT, WI - Thad Weber, who carried no hitters to the fifth inning or later in each of his last two starts, was touched for five runs (4 ER) in just 3.2 innings as the Whitecaps lost in Beloit, 5-3.

Weber retired the first seven Snappers batters of the game, but allowed two runs in the third and three runs in the fourth.

Kody Kaiser went 2-for-5 with a home run that tied the game, 2-2 in the fourth and a double that pulled the 'Caps within 5-3 in the ninth.

The West Michigan bullpen allowed one hit over the final 4.1 innings pitched. Manny Miguelez tossed 3.1 hitless innings before Kelvin Cedano took the mound for the bottom of the eighth.

West Michigan grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third thanks to a pair of errors by the Snappers.

Deibinson Romero put Beloit in front for good with a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the fourth.

Brandon Douglas made his Midwest League debut for the Whitecaps and collected the first Whitecaps hit of the game. He then came around to score the run in the third inning. Douglas doubled to lead off the fifth and finished 2-for-3 as the designated hitter.

Alex Avila and Justin Henry also had two hits each for West Michigan.

Santos Arias earned his third straight victory for the Snappers with six innings pitched and just two runs allowed.

The win ended a three game losing streak for Beloit. West Michigan has dropped six of its last eight games.

It was the first win in four tries for the Snappers against the Whitecaps this season.
