Greene Makes Wizards See Red

Clinton, IA - Jonathan Greene's three-run drive to the left-field berm broke open a 1-1 game as the Clinton LumberKings took the first of a three-game set with the Fort Wayne Wizards, 6-1 Wednesday night at Alliant Energy Field.

Greene stepped to the plate in the sixth against Wizards' right-hander Jeremy McBryde with Engel Beltre and Matt Lawson aboard at the corners. He flipped the bat through the zone, cutting the humid Clinton air with a high fly ball that carried to the berm for his 16th home run of the year and a 4-1 lead.

The LumberKings added two runs of insurance in the seventh as Beltre tripled to the right-field corner and scored on another triple by Mitch Moreland. Greene drove in his fourth RBI of the night, lining a sac fly to right to send Moreland tagging.

McBryde (L, 3-7) had cruised up until Greene's home run, allowing only a run on six hits. Cristian Santana knotted the game in the bottom of the second with a monster solo blast over the wood wall in center, his ninth clout of the year. For the night, the Wizards' righty finished with four earned runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings.

Right-hander and 2007 Rangers' first-round pick Michael Main labored in his home debut, yielding a double to Brad Chalk and an RBI single to Luis Durango in the second. Main exited after just 2.0 innings and 46 pitches, leaving with a blister on his right hand.

The Clinton bullpen answered the call after Main's early exit. Right-hander Jorge Quintero brought his ERA back below seven to 6.49, yielding just three hits and a walk over 3.0 scoreless innings. Lefty Ryan Turner (W, 4-1) had the best night of all, limiting the Wizards to two hits and a walk while striking out four over 3.0 innings. Right-hander Chris Dennis pitched a perfect non-save ninth.

Beltre led the way with three of Clinton's 10 hits, going 3-for-4 with his league-leading 69th and 70th runs scored. Moreland drove him home one of the two times, recording his league-leading 64th RBI. Greene's home run was his only hit of the night, as he finished 1-for-3 with a season-high four RBI.
