Kane County Cougars News Release

Geneva, IL - A night after their nine-game winning streak -- the second-longest in franchise history -- ended, the Kane County Cougars crushed the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 19-5 Sunday night in front of 7,227 fans at Elfstrom Stadium. The Cougars established season highs in runs and hits (20), seven different players had at least two hits and Jeff Baisley drove in six runs for a total of 12 during the four-game series. Kane County now travels to Peoria for a four-game set and will face Chicago Cubs pitcher Mark Prior on Monday as the pitcher makes a rehab start for the Chiefs.

The Rattlers scored in the first against starter Jason Ray, but the Cougars answered with three in the bottom half against Justin Thomas and seven more in the second against the visiting lefty. Anthony Recker, Nick Blasi, Raul Padron and Baisley each delivered hits that brought home two runs to help build a 10-1 lead after two innings.

Four more Cougars tallies in the third against Jeff Gilmore made it 14-1. Jose Pineda's two-run double provided more excitement for the large crowd. The Rattlers added three in the fourth and one in the fifth before Ray (4-1) left. He allowed the five runs -- three earned -- on seven hits over five innings, walked three and fanned six to get the win. Joe Piekarz, Joe Newby and Ron Madej combined for four scoreless relief innings.

Pineda crushed a two-run homer in the sixth to highlight a four-RBI night and a four-run frame. Baisley's sixth RBI arrived in the seventh when he got hit by a pitch. Thomas (4-5) took the loss for Wisconsin.

The Cougars (30-19), winners in 10 of their last 11 games, send Trey Shields (3-5, 6.56) to the mound Monday in Peoria against Prior and the Chiefs (28-20). First pitch is set for 5 p.m. CDT.
