Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, IA - The Clinton LumberKings offense came to a standstill against the Peoria Chiefs Sunday afternoon, recording just four hits on the afternoon in a 7-1 loss. Chiefs starter Todd Blackford (W, 4-1) shut out the L-Kings through six innings, allowing just two hits while striking out one.

The continued hot hitting of Chiefs second-baseman Robinson Chirinos and five errors by the LumberKings defense led to the seven-run outburst for Peoria. Four of the seven runs came against starter Jake Rasner (L, 3-4), who worked six innings, recording seven strikeouts.

Chirinos went 3-for-4 on the afternoon, scoring three times and knocking home a run. Peoria's Jesus Valdez added a pair of singles in a 2-for-5 day, extending his hitting streak to an impressive 19 games.

The LumberKings got on the board in the bottom of the ninth against Chiefs reliever Mike Billek. Truan Mehl started off the inning with a double to right field, then came home two batters later as Ben Crabtree delivered an RBI single to right field.

Freddie Thon, riding an eight-game hitting streak, did not see action on a day off. Terry Blunt got the start at first base, picking up one of the four hits for the L-Kings.

The LumberKings (18-31) continue the eight-game homestand at Alliant Energy Field tomorrow afternoon as the Cedar Rapids Kernels come back to Clinton. Listen to the game on AM 1340 KROS in Clinton, or live on the web at www.lumberkings.com.
