Lansing Lugnuts News Release

Fort Wayne, Ind. - The Lansing Lugnuts completed their second sweep of the season, blanking the Fort Wayne Wizards 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Memorial Stadium. Lansing took 7-of-8 game from the Wizards over the last nine days. The game also marked the third time this season that the Lugnuts have tossed a shutout.

Russ Savickas was dominant for the Lugnuts as he picked up his second win of the season. Savickas went seven innings for the second time this season, while scattering six hits. He fanned five batters and walked four in the start. Adrian Martin threw a perfect eighth while Paul Phillips picked up his eighth save of the season by leaving runners stranded at second and third to end the game.

Lansing took the lead in the third inning when Anthony Garibaldi raced home from second base on a Sean Shoffit fielder's choice. Brian Bormaster was thrown out at second as Fort Wayne (22-25) was trying to complete a double play, however a good slide forced a late throw to first. Garibaldi then scampered home sliding in behind the tag of Nick Hundley to make the score 1-0.

The Lugnuts added another run in the seventh when Brian Pettway doubled to right-center field and scored on an Anthony Hatch single to right field to push the lead to 2-0.

Lansing (30-18) has now won five straight games and will open a four game series against the Southwest Michigan Devil Rays on Monday afternoon at C.O. Brown Stadium in Battle Creek, Michigan. Aaron Tressler (1-2, 2.22) will take the hill for the Lugnuts, while Jeff Kamrath (0-2, 4.57) will hurl for the Rays. First pitch is set for 3:35 p.m.
